HOW MIGHT WE REDUCE FOOD WASTE IN OUR COMMUNITY ?

PROBLEM

Food Wastage is one of the pressing challenges and a complex issue. Globally, around one-third of all of the food produced for consumption is wasted. The problem is too enormous to ignore as it represents a massive social, economic and environmental loss.

SOLUTION

We engaged in Human-Centered design process to help address the issue by designing a prototype of a mobile application.

  • This app allows the users to plan their shopping based on the weekly produce update and arrival time notification.
  • Users can pre-order items and pick-up the package at the notified spot.
  • The App also helps the users with leftovers recipes to reduce food wastage, provides tips and facts to spread awareness.
  • The App tracks the user's active participation in recycling activities by scanning the barcodes (tags) and incentivizes them by offering discounts of the fresh produce.
  • This app will facilitate users to face their food challenge effectively.

APPROACH

HUMAN-CENTERED DESIGN METHODOLOGY

new

INSPIRATION

  • To create meaningful Solutions and gain deep undertanding of People's needs, allocated 2 weeks to conduct field research to learn and explore unfamiliar contexts.
  • Developed an Interview Guide and conducted interviews with Target Audience, Experts, Secondary research, Brainstorming and Cardsorting with Team members.

IDEATION

Transformed the research into meaningful and actionable insights that will become the foundation of the design. It enabled us to identity opportunities for design and prototype possible solutions.

  • This phase consists of Synthesis and Prototyping process
  • Translated learnings into opportunities.
  • Clustered Insights based on our research work into themes.
  • Created Insight Statements and derived "How Might We's" which helped us to come with ideas.
  • We used Trello application for team collaboration.

PERSONAS & STORYBOARDS

This process enabled us to turn the opportunities for Design into innovative concepts to prototype and continue to gather feedback and improve on ideas.

  • Through Personas, we represented Users based on the research and interviews.
  • Storyboarding helped us to visualizing the end-to-end experience our users in the current scenario and how our proposed solution might help them reducing the food wastage.
